Lough Boora is situated in the Midlands between Birr and Tullamore. 2 Hours from both Galway and Dublin. It is where autor and retired politican Liz McManus starts the first of two walks. The commercial harvesting of turf began in the mid 20th century. Today the cutaway bog is entering a new phase of life containing 50km of walking paths laid out in looping routes. Liz is joined by parklands manager Tom Egan to get a first flavour of the strange and wonderful landscape and meets geologist John Feehan who sheds some light on the mystery of the ancient missing lake.
