About
The walk starts at the Luas terminus in Tallaght and ends at the DART station in Shankill which is 40 kilometre away over a new trek called The Dublin Mountains Way. The first of many important landmarks which Ken and Ciara encounter on their walk is Bohernabreena Reservoir. This reservoir is where most of South Dublin city's water comes from and its fascinating history is explained by the senior engineer on the site which makes a story in itself. Among the many famous, or infamous, names which crop up along the Dublin Mountains Way is the notorious Hellfire Club. It is a famous landmark which can be seen from a long way away and even its very sight is forbidding. All sorts of nefarious happenings are reported to have gone on there. Also on the route they meet fellow walkers, a local historian and volunteers. There are volunteer rangers who patrol the Dublin Mountains Way to make sure that it is well kept and also to reassure walkers that it is safe and to offer anybody advice on routes and loops within the Dublin Mountains. Another group of people, also volunteers, are the Mountain Meitheal Group. These people come from all over Ireland and work on a voluntary basis in their own time to build boardwalks and tracks for people to explore. It is one of the features of this programme that such a group are actually building a track near Ticknock.
